The IELTS Train the Trainer program is a professional development course designed for experienced IELTS teachers who wish to improve their skills and knowledge to train other IELTS teachers. It is typically offered by British Council, IDP Education, and Cambridge Assessment English, the three organizations that jointly own IELTS.
The program aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the IELTS test format, assessment criteria, and techniques for teaching IELTS candidates the four language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking). It is structured around four modules, each of which focuses on a specific area of IELTS teaching and learning:
Module 1: Understanding the IELTS Test This module provides an overview of the IELTS test format, including the four sections of the test, the types of questions that candidates can expect, and the scoring system. Participants will also learn about the assessment criteria used to evaluate candidates’ performance and how to interpret IELTS band scores.
Module 2: Teaching Listening and Reading This module focuses on teaching the listening and reading sections of the IELTS test. Participants will learn about the skills and strategies that candidates need to succeed in these sections, as well as effective teaching techniques and materials.
Module 3: Teaching Writing This module covers the writing section of the IELTS test. Participants will learn about the different types of writing tasks that candidates can expect, the assessment criteria used to evaluate their writing, and strategies for teaching writing effectively.
Module 4: Teaching Speaking This module focuses on teaching the speaking section of the IELTS test. Participants will learn about the assessment criteria used to evaluate candidates’ speaking performance, the types of speaking tasks that candidates can expect, and techniques for teaching speaking effectively.
Throughout the program, participants will have the opportunity to observe and reflect on their teaching practice, receive feedback from their peers and trainers, and develop their training materials and resources. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of completion and will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to train other IELTS teachers.
